Introduction
As a labor and delivery nurse trying to conceive for over 5 years, I was looking for my miracle. Unexplained infertility along with some hormonal issues made each month a roller coaster of emotions. I never truly knew if I was ovulating or not and LH strips left me more confused than before. So when I heard about a device that would show me actual numbers and I could use those numbers to help time things for conceiving? It was a no brainer! This is my story of using Mira to help decipher my hormones and ultimately get pregnant.
Unexplained infertility
I am married to my high school sweetheart and we had been trying to conceive for 5 years. Every month felt like a rollercoaster of building up hope, only for that hope to come crashing down. I knew it could take up to a year to get pregnant, but never expected to experience unexplained infertility. We had been for all the tests but there was still no explanation for why we couldn’t get pregnant. It was devastating but I wasn’t ready to give up.

Schedule NowI can’t recall where I heard about Mira, but I was intrigued by the idea of having actual numbers for my hormone levels. I loved that it had an app and that you could test multiple hormones at one time. Using the device gave me hope and I no longer felt like we were shooting in the dark so to speak.
I had been using Mira for several years (still TTC) and could see how my hormones worked each month. This in and of itself was a game changer. After using the LH strips where you pee on them and then see how dark the line is, the data from Mira was amazing. I found the LH strips messy to use and difficult to read; not to mention that I wasn’t getting pregnant! I never knew for sure when I was ovulating and each month felt like a giant letdown. Not only could I see the numbers with Mira and utilize that information to our advantage, but it helped me understand my cycle too. I have PCOS so I knew my hormones might be a challenge. Mira made it so much easier and took the guesswork out of things.

Working with fertility specialists
After seeing a fertility doctor, I started prioritizing my health and lost over 40 lbs in 5 months. I had been using Mira for a couple of years at this point and knew I was getting an LH peak, but we still weren’t conceiving. We tried a cycle with letrozole (Clomid), a fertility drug used to trigger ovulation, and underwent Intrauterine Insemination (IUI). Unfortunately, the procedure wasn’t successful and our options were becoming limited.
Because of my age and our limited fertility health insurance coverage, we decided to go ahead with IVF. At this point it was in December and we couldn’t start our round of IVF until February. While waiting to start IVF I requested another round of letrozole. I figured that it couldn’t hurt while we were waiting, and I could use Mira to time intercourse.
To my utter shock and unbelievable surprise I am now pregnant. In all of my 37 years I have never experienced this and am grateful Mira gave me the insight to make this possible. Over the years that I have used the device, it has changed for the better. You are now able to test so many different hormones and I love the ease of use. You can even share your results with your doctor and it was a great tool to help me understand my cycle.
Advice for others
I know this is a difficult journey and not everyone will understand what you’re going through. If it’s what you truly want though, don’t give up. Mira is a great tool to help you understand your cycle and maybe even help you achieve your goals. What you’re hoping for is worth every bad day!
