Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome affects as many as 5 million women of reproductive age in the US. It’s one of the most common ovulatory disorders affecting women.
In honor of PCOS Awareness Month, we are thrilled to share a success story from one of customers diagnosed with PCOS that successfully conceived using Mira. Mary D was happy to share with us how Mira not only helped her gain control of her body again but helped her successfully conceive.
“I had heartbreak after heartbreak before finally getting pregnant.”
Mary D is a 29-year-old expecting mother of a one that was diagnosed in 2017 with PCOS during her first attempt to conceive. Although she wasn’t diagnosed with PCOS until she tried conceiving, she first noticed symptoms of PCOS in high school. She noticed she had struggled with unwanted hair growth and irregular cycles lasting 3 weeks long. Throughout highschool and part of her adult life, Mary used hormonal birth control until she was ready to conceive.
During their first attempt, Mary and her husband spent 6 – 12 months trying to conceive. Next they decided to work with a fertility doctor to conceive. Mary spent the next 6 months using the medications metformin, letrozole, and trigger shots.
Finally after many disappointments during the conceiving process, she became pregnant during her second round of treatments. In 2017, Mary had her first child who is now 2.5 years old.
While Mary was thrilled to conceive, the emotional and physical aspect was extremely stressful. She knew that she wanted more than one child, but the thought of going through the physical and emotional struggles the first time left Mary feeling overwhelmed when it came to trying again.
Around 18 months after the birth of her first child, she decided to visit the fertility doctor again in hopes of conceiving in the upcoming fall/winter months. During her second round with the fertility doctor she was started on progesterone in addition to Metformin.
But during her second round on fertility medicines, Mary experienced an extreme reaction to the medications.
“I had become extremely depressed and barely able to function in my daily life. My husband and I made the decision at that point to put the entire process on pause and focus on the family that we already had.” she said. After this reaction she knew she could not continue the fertility process with the medications she was using.
Around the summer, Mary and her husband decided they would delay going to fertility doctors this time and focus on trying to conceive naturally.
At this time, Mary began researching diet and exercise as a method used by some moms that have successfully conceived with PCOS. It was also at this time Mary discovered Mira. After researching and seeing many successful reviews Mary decided to give Mira a try.
One of the many struggles with PCOS is feeling little to no control over your body. Mary knew even if she wasn’t successful with becoming pregnant the chance to learn more about her body made Mira worth it.
“I’d have never guessed it was happening so late into my cycle. I cannot thank you enough for this amazing product. It has saved me time, money, and a lot of emotional anguish.”
In June Mary purchased Mira, the process of purchasing and receiving the fertility kit was effortless, she says. Mary began tracking her first cycle at the end of June.
Her initial thoughts throughout the process of using the fertility kit were that she felt like she understood her cycles much better. One of the struggles Mary faced with PCOS is not being able to actually determine when or if she ovulated. Mira’s fertility kit helped Mary discover that she ovulated much later in her cycle than she was aware.
She was also able to recognize overall changes in her body that correlated with her LH levels rising. 4 weeks after Mary’s LH peak, she was surprised to discover she was pregnant.
Mary wants other women dealing with PCOS to know not to lose hope.
“ I had never expected after my first experience with TTC that I’d end up spontaneously pregnant without medical intervention. I feel like for a long time, I resented my body and my PCOS.”
This time around Mary decided to embrace PCOS by learning more about her body and how it works by using Mira fertility along with diet and exercise. Even though Mary successfully conceived using our fertility kit, she’s decided she will continue to use Mira in the future to better understand the changes in her body.
